(Previous Notes)

The manor house was full. Over full. It felt like half of Padua was in the Princep's manor. Udrin excused himself from the crowd. The crowd was annoying, and the proximity of the power stones was draining. Tegort escorted the elf upstairs and watched at his door.

Maximillian had area maps spread out on a table in the study. He wished more specifics from Ludo about what to expect from Padua to Ubain.

Ubain's militia had cleared the main road on their way to attack Padua. There would be no game or dry firewood available for the party when heading in that direction. And, there were large trolls guarding Ubain's gates.

Vaervenshyael left the conversation. Ludo had told her all this before, and with infuriatingly few details. Udrin had said something about being able to rid her of her anger. She supposed she was at a point where that would be a good idea. Otherwise, she was likely to snap one of these days and kill one of her traveling companions. Khaine knows, she almost had this night when Johann spoke so irreverently to Udrin.

Tegort was in front of Udrin's door but let her through with no troubles. Inside, Udrin looked a lot more peaceful than he had in the study. And he treated her more like an equal. Apparently she wasn't the only elf who was ever vexed from traveling too long with humans.

He asked about the darkness inside her. She could verify no darkness, just trouble controlling her rage since returning from the dwarf hold. She would welcome the calming song of Hysh. In truth, she would welcome any song at this point, as sung by an Asur.

Udrin prepares for his ritual with a bit of hair the doctor had taken from Vaervenshyael before her...disability. The thought that the doctor had taken some of her hair after she had refused to give it to him disturbed her a bit, but she was fully given over to having Udrin sing his ritual over her. She would visit the doctor later.

Udrin's song of Hysh was captivating. Beautiful. Cleansing. Renewing. The weight of the world was lifted off her shoulders...a weight she didn't even realize she carried.

She basked in the beauty of the elven song as long as she could. They talked of a few more things, specifically about Azmir. She told Udrin of her distrust of the human, and Udrin convinced Vaervenshyael the human was indeed trustworthy. She left, just as Tankred and Gertrude came to the door to see what was going on. Tegort let them in, and the ogre was crying. It seems the whole manor had heard the song and seen a bright, glowing light.

Vaervenshyael told Tankred he was a true friend, and apologized to Gertrude if she had embarrassed her in front of her town and her liege. With that, Vaervenshyael headed down the stairs, surely leaving two baffled humans behind.
